MFG NEWS / NOUVELLES DU MFG

Ever thought of trying your hand at radio? CBC Radio One is looking for show proposals.......

1. CBC RADIO ONE: CALL FOR DAILY ARTS, CULTURE & ENTERTAINMENT MAGAZINE SHOW PROPOSALS

VALUES: Plugged-in, Canadian but with an eye on the world, Entertaining, Wide-ranging, Broad in focus, Broadcast live, Journalistic

TONE: Smart but not smart-ass, flexible, spontaneous, comfortable presenting a range of emotion. Knows when to be funny, when to be serious.

MISSION STATEMENT: Arts, culture and entertainment: it's what we cover and what we create.

FORMAT: One hour daily on Radio One.

HOST: Knowledgeable, culturally eclectic, able to handle live broadcasting. Strong personality and on-air appeal.

TARGET AUDIENCE: Listeners from 35 to 49 and beyond. It will appeal to those who not only want to follow their specific areas of interest, but also those who want to learn about what is making cultural waves in Canada and around the world. It will truly be radio for the curious mind.

WHAT YOU'D HEAR: The show would be a fast-paced exploration of all aspects of culture with a mix of interviews, documentaries, reported stories and performance. It would cover both high and popular culture in a way that no other program on CBC Radio currently does. Some examples: While it would certainly report on theatre and opera, it would also take you inside the world of video games (at which Canadians excel), graphic novels, art, the emerging rock scene in Montreal (Spin and the New York Times have both recently focused on Montreal as North America's hottest rock spot). The show would also focus on the business of arts and entertainment. It will showcase CBC journalism in this area and be an editorial leader in what it talks about and how it chooses to talk about it. Although much of the show would deal with cultural development and trends within Canada, it would not be, by definition, a CanCon show. Most importantly, to ensure a fast-paced program there would be, in every show, a range of subjects delivered through stories of varying length. Ideally at least five stories per show. Music would also play a key role in this program.

PITCH PROCESS: Please submit your proposals to radioproposals@cbc.ca and cc carolyn_warren@cbc.ca and patricia_pleszczynska@cbc.ca

DEADLINE: July 7, 2006
