MFG NEWS / NOUVELLES DU MFGPosted February 5th, 2007: Each year the Cinema Student Association is responsible for organizing and hosting a film festival to present work produced by Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema Students. The Festival is open to all Cinema Students from Film Production and Animation in their second, third or fourth year of study. Students are asked to submit their work directly to the Cinema Students Association so that we may screen and organize a program of the films in advance of the festival. Submission is also open to all first year students; however due to the high volume of films submitted, the programming committee will be attending the First Year Screening in April where a short list of films will be selected from. The first year students whose films are selected at this point will then be contacted directly an asked to submit their films to the festival. Please note: This year ALL submissions from second- and third-year Animation and Production students will be screened.* A programming committee made up of Cinema Graduate Students and Alumni, will meet for five days in April to screen all submissions and organize them into six evenings of screenings to be presented at the Cinema du Parc. The programming process will be done in consideration of style, form and content, and is set up to allow for a more refined and creative presentation of the astounding work that is being produced at The Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema. A small number of these submissions, both from film and animation, will be selected for a special presentation "Best of the Fest" to be screened on the final day of the film festival on Thursday, April 10th 2007. The Cinema Students Association recognises that this is a student film festival and one of the only opportunities for students to present their work. We strive to present the work in the most creative and professional manner with the goal of promoting The Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema and its students to the local Montreal community with pride. We encourage all students to submit their work to the festival so that we may all be a collective part of this celebration. If you have any questions or concerns, or would like to become involved in running the festival on any level – we would love your feedback, and desperately need your help. Please contact us anytime via email, or drop by the office next to the cinema lounge. Thank you, Tara Arnst *Please see submission specifications
