This
week's double bill (curated by Pony Up's Laura Wills):
~
Coal Miner's Daughter ~ 7:30 pm (Modern Classic)
Sissy Spacek
won a much-deserved Oscar for her lead in this bracing (ie. people have been
known to cry) biography of country-music legend Loretta Lynn. British director
Michael Apted (Gorky Park, 7 UP series) brings a nice banjo-y texture to the
Kentucky backwoods, where Loretta grows up and meets her future husband (Tommy
Lee Jones). Then it's just one small step from the tin shack to the Grand Ole
Opry and one enormous step for country.

Ganked ~ 9:45 pm (Hip Hop)
Starring, written, produced, and scored by Kel
Mitchell (Mystery Men's Invisible Boy), Ganked is the shiznet -- no, really.
Guest curator Laura Wills says, "it's about this dude who writes this song
to win a contest at a record company. But the daughter of the company's owner,
who's is this huge pop star, steals the song and records it as her own. She's a
spoiled brat and she ganks the dude. He vows revenge. I don't remember what
happens after that except that the guy from Onyx beats him up." 'Nuff
said.
