FILM POP BEGINS NEXT WEEK!

 

Montreal, September 27, 2006 – Film Pop begins on Wednesday, October 4th, 7pm, with an Opening Night Gala at the glise St. Jean Baptiste featuring Gary Lucas Golem, Elza Kephart & Elizabeth Lawrences silent short Beyond the Pearly Gates of Ill-Repute, and the North American premiere of Gonzales Organism.  It is just one of the many very special events decorating this years Film Pop line-up. The festival runs October 4th-8th, alongside the Pop Montreal International Music Festival.

 

OVER 50 FILMS:  Including the Montreal premieres of Interkosmos, Mutual Appreciation, Dance Party USA, and For the Love of Dolly; the Canadian premieres of Youre Gonna Miss Me and Schwarze Schafe (Black Sheep); the World Premieres of Montreal Stories 1971 and Posthumous Pickle Party and many many more!

 

NEWLY ADDED:  Maverick Canadian filmmaker Larry Kent joins the Film Pop fray with a special screening of his 1967 underground classic High, shot right here in Montreal.  High screens Thursday, October 5th at our main venue, the Associaao Portuguesa, 4170 St. Urbain (at Rachel). Kent will be present for a Q & A.

 

AS WE SPEAK  Filmmakers are putting the final touches on 5 new short films enjoying their world premieres at Film Pop. Making Music with the National Film Board of Canada is an exciting new filmmaking initiative launched by Film Pop and the NFB, pairing emerging Montreal filmmakers with red hot Montreal bands.  The all-star line-up includes The Besnard Lakes by Stacey Dewolfe, SoCalled by Ben Steiger Levine, Dandi Wind by John Londono, Bell Orchestre by Kaveh Nabatian, and Dishwasher by Sinbad Richardson.  Making Music is unveiled at our Closing Night Gala, 7pm Sunday October 8th at the Associaao Portuguesa.  Also on tap for the gala is the Montreal debut of San Franciscos 16mm performance troupe, the Wet Gate collective.

 

AND DONT FORGET:  Deco Dawsons innovative live remake of his award-winning short film Dumb Angel, 7pm, Saturday October 7 at Dare Dare.  The outdoor art space (located between Clark and St. Laurent under the Van Horne overpass) plays host to this one-of-a-kind event, featuring drummer extraordinaire Anders Erickson, acclaimed sound designer Matthew Patton, and a multitude of cameras and pyrotechnics.
