Message from MFG member Philippe Spurrell, founder and director THE FILM SOCIETY:

This year marks the 15th anniversary of the establishment of Le Cinéclub de Montréal: "The Film Society". Since 1992 we have hosted several hundred screenings of films ranging from 19th century curios to experimental Euro-arthouse works and technicolor cinemascope epics to seventies cult trash.

In an era where cinema is increasingly "consumed" in the home, our organization continues to offer Montrealers a chance to interact with each other and 'experience' cinema as a group through the projection of genuine 16mm and 35mm motion picture film (much of which can't be found on any other format). In an age of solitary Facebooking, MySpacing, on-line gaming and You-Tubing, it is more important than ever for people to interact face-to-face with other like-mined people. Especially when it comes to sharing thoughts and feelings about Art. I have been proud and happy to make this my mission for the last 15 years and plan to continue bringing you all the best repertory movie nights anywhere in the city. Which brings us to the future.

There are going to be BIG changes for our organization as we prepare to go more public and upgrade on every level. We will also be returning to a format that includes outstanding guest speakers from various areas of the film industry. You can hear all the juicy details in person at our next really special event:

THE FIFTEENTH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

WHAT : Our last anniversary celebration marking ten years in 2002 featured a double bill of titles that were kept secret until the last minute. You actually had to show up to see what was playing. People were not disappointed to see a 35mm screening of an Orson Welles masterpiece subtitled in French followed by a Blaxploitation classic. A sort of Classy vs. Trashy theme. Well, we are doing the same thing this time around by not announcing the titles but this much can be revealed; we will start off with a selection of mind-blowing 16mm shorts and trailers that will make you glad you showed up. This will be followed by a short break with an assortment of snacks, desserts and "Holiday refreshments". Next up will be a visually stunning and moving film in glorious 35mm. Not sure yet if it will be something recent that you have likely never seen or something older that you have not likely seen in a very long time. All of this will be in a relaxed party atmosphere. You definitely don't want to miss this one!

WHEN: Sunday, December 16th at 7 p.m.

WHERE: Alexandre De Seve Theatre 1400 deMaisoneuve W. at Concordia University, Metro Guy-Concordia.

COST: FREE but in order to help cover snacks, drinks, projectionist and theatre rental costs we kindly ask for a reasonable donation of $5 or more.

Cette année marque le 15ième anniversaire du Cinéclub de Montréal: "The Film Society".

Depuis 1992, nous avons eues plusieurs centaines de projections de films. Curiosités du 19ième siècle jusqu?au expérimentations "Euro-Arthouse" modernes en passant par des ?uvres épiques en cinémascope et technicolor et par la culture trash des années 70. En cette époque de consommation de films à la maison, notre organisation continue d?offrir aux Montréalais une chance d?interagir et d?expérimenter le "cinéma" en tant que groupe à travers des projections de véritable pellicule16mm et 35mm (la plupart de nos films ne se trouvent qu?en ce format).

En une ère où les gens sont en solitaire de plus en plus sur Facebook, Myspace, jeux vidéos en ligne et Youtube, il est plus important que jamais que les gens de se rencontrer face à face avec d?autres gens partageant les mêmes intérêts. Spécialement lorsque viens le temps de partager sur l?art. Je suis heureux et fier d?avoir eue cette mission les 15 dernières années et je prévois vous offrir les meilleures soirées de cinéma répertoire en ville.

Ce qui nous amènent à notre futur

De grands changements sont prévus pour notre organisation et nous nous préparons à devenir plus public et d?améliorer sur tous les niveaux. Nous retourneront aussi aux format avec invités spéciaux qui font partie de divers domaine de l?industrie cinématographique. Vous pourrez entendre tous les détails juteux en personne à notre prochain événement :

CÉLÉBRATION DU 15IÈME ANNIVERSAIRE DE NOTRE CINECLUB

QUOI : Notre dernière célébration qui marquait notre 10ième anniversaire en 2002 était un programme double de titres qui sont restés secret jusqu?à la dernière minute. Vous deviez vous y présenter pour savoir ce qui était présenté. Les gens ne furent pas déçus de voir une présentation d'un chef d'oeuvre d'Orson Welles sous-titrée en français suivi d?un classique "Blaxploitation". Classe vs Trash. Nous ferons la même chose cette année, aucuns titres ne seront annoncés. Nous pouvons seulement vous dire que la soirée commencera avec de superbes courts-métrages et bandes-annonces en 16mm. Suivi d?une courte pause avec grignotines, desserts et "rafraîchissements" des Fêtes. Après, un long-métrage en magnifique 35mm. Je ne suis pas certain si ce sera quelque chose de récent que vous n?avez probablement jamais vu ou un film plus vieux que vous avez vu il y a très longtemps. Tout ceci dans un atmosphère de fête. Vous ne voulez surtout pas manquer ça!
