Subject: Transient Light – A video
Installation
Date: March 7-13th, 2006
Location: Gallery Espace, 4844 St. Laurent
Video installation proves whatÕs old is
new.
Using discarded televisions he collected from the alleys and side streets of
Montreal, Josh Usheroff has created a video
installation that illustrates the hypnotic effect of television in our lives.
The installation presents dizzying imagery to induce the viewer into a trance
like state.
"The TVs I collect easily date back three decades" explains Josh,
"It is interesting to consider the past lives of these found objects and
the historic images they have displayed over the years. These old televisions
incorporate a sense of nostalgia into my work and underscore the prevalence of
this medium during the later half of the 20th century."
UsheroffÕs work also forces us to consider what remains when we dispose of our
outmoded technology.
The installation entitled "Transient Light" will
be on display at Gallery Espace, 4844 St-Laurent blvd, March 7-13.
